When you register at the Ice Palace on Tuesday, you'll receive a packet containing several things that you'll need for the competition.

  • - Your credential. If your coach is coming, your coach's credential will also be in your packet. Your credentials are necessary for access to the ice. During competition, only skaters and coaches with credentials are permitted in the area of the ice entrance.
  • - Your bus pass, if you signed up to use the LOC shuttle bus. If you signed up your coach and any guests, their bus passes will be in your packet, too. You'll be able to get on the bus for that first trip to the rink without a pass; you'll need the pass for subsequent rides.
  • - A pre-printed name tag, if you signed up for the Welcome Dinner. If you signed up your coach or guests for the Welcome dinner, name tags for them will be in there, too. These pre-printed name tags double as your ticket to dinner.
  • - Your luau receipt, if you signed up for the Polynesian luau on Saturday evening. The receipt includes all guests that you paid for. Instructions are included for pickup in Waikiki or for driving there yourself. If you paid for the luau but don't have a way to get there (car or luau bus), be sure to purchase the luau transportation at the rink on Tuesday or Wednesday. This is a bus from Waikiki provided by Paradise Cove.
  • - "Lay see" - a lucky red envelope. Feed it to the lion during the lion dance at the Welcome Dinner for good luck in the competition.
The Welcome Dinner, buffet style, follows the last unofficial practice ice at 5:00 - 7:30pm on Tuesday. Three key events will occur during the dinner period. The starting draw will be held at 5:00pm followed by hula dancers and finally a Chinese lion dance.

A planning tip: Ice Palace does not have locker/changing rooms. You should either come to the rink ready for your event or plan to change in the restroom.

Schedules and groups are now posted.

2005 Official Practice Schedule
2005 Unofficial Practice Schedule
2005 Unofficial Practice Schedule - Wednesday
Because this competition is so much larger than originally expected, Official Practice consumes all available ice time on Wednesday Thursday and Friday. There will be no unofficial practice on Wednesday except for the Junior and Senior men sessions very early and very late (these unofficial practice sessions are offered because men will get no official practice on Wednesday). Similarly, there is not sufficient ice time available to give a second unofficial practice session to all skaters who requested it. Refunds will be given for those unofficial practice sessions that the LOC is unable to schedule (both Tuesday and Wednesday).

The LOC-provided shuttle bus between the Ocean Resort Hotel Waikiki and the rink will support all who signed up for it for all unofficial and official practice ice, the Welcome Dinner/Draw Party, as well as all competition events. The specific shuttle bus schedule will be posted here shortly.

7/24/05

U.S. Figure Skating expects to publish schedules and pertinent information to all competitors about mid-week.

There are 84 competitors. 46 Senior Ladies, 25 Junior Ladies, 8 Senior Men and 5 Junior Men.

170 competitors, coaches, officials and guests have signed up for the Welcome Dinner on Tuesday, August 9.

124 have signed up for the Polynesian Luau at Paradise Cove on Saturday, August 13. However, only 69 have signed up for the transporation to and from the luau which is 33 miles from Waikiki. If you plan to go to the luau and DO NOT have your own transporation, contact the LOC at uscc_orders@hawaiifsc.org to purchase the luau bus tickets ($10.40 round trip).

There are about 90 skaters in the competition, making this the largest U.S. Collegiate Championships, at least in recent history. There were 52 skaters last year. Final count should be available from U.S. Figure Skating soon.

The LOC has received the LOC Forms A-D from 60 skaters so far. If you have not yet received an email from the LOC acknowledging receipt of your LOC forms, the LOC hasn't received them. Snail mail has been taking 3-5 days for delivery.

The LOC Forms are important. The LOC needs that information to adequately plan for shuttle busses, prepare bus passes, and plan the Welcome Dinner. Links to a condensed version of the LOC Forms are at the bottom of the next column.

The Welcome Dinner at the rink starts right after the last unofficial practice ice session on Tuesday. Events during the dinner include the official draw, a traditional Lion Dance and a brief hula show.

All of the rooms blocked by the LOC in the Ocean Resort Hotel Waikiki have been reserved and the hotel is full. The hotel staff provided this list of nearby hotels that are within easy walking distance of Ocean Resort from which the LOC shuttle bus to the rink will be departing. If you have not yet made hotel reservations, you may want to consider one of these:

  • Waikiki Beach Marriott (across the street from Ocean Resort)
  • Waikiki Banyon
  • Aston Waikiki Beach
  • Waikiki Sunset
  • Queen Kapiolani
  • Pacific Beach Hotel

The vidoegrapher will be R&J Video. If you already have a competition tape, bring it with you and R&J Video will add your events to it.

(Updated 6/30/05)
Because of the number of competitors, there may be some changes to the Tentative Schedule of Events (e.g., may need qualifying round for Junior Ladies, etc.). The schedule here will be updated as soon as it is available. The Practice Ice Schedule will be posted on this page when it becomes available.
