The Hawaii Figure Skating Club was awarded the 2005 U.S. Collegiate Figure Skating Championships to be held at the Ice Palace in Honolulu, Hawaii, August 9-12, 2005.
This competition began in 1985 making it the longest running of all collegiate programs. The U.S. Figure Skating sanctioned competition is held each year in August and draws all the top junior and senior collegiate skaters together to compete in ladies and mens singles. The competition is one of a kind and is the only figure skating event open just to full time college students at the junior or senior level. To qualify for the U.S. Collegiate Championships, the skater must be a current U.S. Figure Skating member who is enrolled full-time in a college or university degree program, a recent graduate of an accredited institution or entering a college or university as a first-year student for the upcoming academic semester. Some skaters come from colleges that have varsity figure skating teams, while others may be the lone figure skater at their university.
The 2004 U.S. Collegiate Championships will be held in Troy, Ohio, August 4-7. The 2003 Championships were held in St. Paul, Minnesota; the 2002 Championships were held in Newark, Delaware and the 2001 Championships were held in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Championships previously had rotated between Colorado Springs and Lake Placid, New York.
