Mari Feiteira
Aloha, and thank you for choosing me to be April's Skater of the Month. My name is Mari Feiteira and I am 18 years old, in my freshman year at UH Manoa. I have been skating since the 4th grade, but have only been competing for the past 2 years and I LOVE it.
At the moment, I am in the Preliminary level (USFSA) and Freestyle 5 (ISI). My favorite jumps include the loop, flip and lutz, and my favorite spins are the camel and layback. Currently, I am working on landing my axel, double salchow and double loop jumps, as well as perfecting my back-sit spin, flying camel and Ina Bauer.
My favorite parts of skating however, are the muscle aches and bruises from falling, the EARLY morning practices and the stress before a competition/test; I love them all because they eventually lead up to that one moment of pure happiness and pride when I land a difficult move or execute a flawless program. The freedom and joy I feel when I'm out there on the ice is incomparable to any other feeling in the world and I absolutely love it.
My goals for skating are to pass the USFSA Senior Freestyle and Moves-in-the-Field tests and to compete in a national competition (as I have never competed in the mainland before). Besides skating, I love horseback riding, photography and am an avid reader. Thank you once again!
