Kehuanani Malama
Hiya guys! I’m Kehaunani Marissa Malama (also know as Mari or “The
Scarecrow” or “The Person with the White Face”). There hasn’t been a year
out of my entire life that didn’t include too many trips to the Ice Palace.
I can thank my older sister for that since she started skating before I was
born.

For several years, I was one of the so-called “rink rats,” or children
you see scurrying around begging for tokens, playing video games, and
getting infamous chastisements from their parents. I stepped on the ice at
age 5 and thought playing the game “shoot the duck” was really wicked but
then decided that the pain of falling was just too much. My whimsical mind
told me that I might as well get back to the sport because I was there so
often. So I returned to the ice as a “competitive” figure skater at seven
years old. Now I’m unfortunately seventeen and going off to Oregon for
college. Hopefully I’ll teach in Oregon with Nani and Stella as well as
prepare for pre-med (Heehee, a little fancy of mine). I’ve only completed
Senior Moves in the Field. I still need to work on free skate and I love to
ice dance—even though there’s no one to dance with. It’s pretty fun
pretending you’re skating with someone. Jumping is insane, especially when
you land those really good ones but I fall too often to be remembered as a
jumper. One point of advice: jump before the wall jumps at you. I love
skating in shows and am running out of things to say. Thanks for wasting all
your time reading this unbelievably long yet compressed summary of my
skating career. To all you skaters: Skate Hard and Skate Fast.
